John Hawkins Memorial Scholarship
The Rotary Club of Alice Springs has been offering the John Hawkins Memorial Scholarship to an outstanding Central Australian student commencing tertiary studies for more than 40 Years.
Service above Self
Providing service to others is a core value of Rotary. Previous recipients of the Scholarship have all demonstrated in different ways, that they provide Service above Self. Service comes in many shapes and forms from working with disadvantaged youth in Alice Springs to assisting with building a school in Cambodia. In your application you are encouraged to show how you have provided service to others in the past and your intentions for the future.
Eligibility
Central Australian residents who are completing Year 12 in 2024 or who have completed Year 12 in 2023 and have had a Gap Year in 2024 and will be studying a Bachelor degree at an approved institution in 2025 are eligible to apply for this scholarship. If you are offered and subsequently accept The John Hawkins Memorial Scholarship you agree to not accept other scholarships.
The scholarship cannot be deferred, so only apply this year if you will commence your studies in 2025.
Selection Criteria
The John Hawkins Memorial Scholarship is a competitive scholarship and will be awarded on the recommendation of a selection committee whose assessment will be based on the following criteria:

Academic ability

Community service (past, present and future)

Interpersonal skills
-
Financial need
(Criteria not equally weighted)
Academic ability will initially be assessed on the basis of your year 11 and 12 grades. Please supply a scanned copy of your Year 12 Semester 1 results with your initial application. It is at the committees discretion to request that you provide your ATAR score when available which may form part of the final assessment.
In addressing the other criteria it is recommended you answer the following questions in no more than three pages:

How have you provided service to others in the past and present?

What are your goals for providing service to others in the future?

How do you work with other people in achieving team goals?

How will the scholarship financially assist you in achieving your goals?
Please include the telephone contacts of two referees that the selection committee can contact should they require.
Application Closing date: COB Monday November 18, 2024
It is your responsibility to utilize skills in time management to ensure that you get all the information that you require and submit your application before the closing date.
Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.
Interviews for the shortlisted applicants will be conducted on Saturday November 30, 2024
